Pushback 35
Nobody remembers March 11, 2020. Well, maybe somebody does. Probably someone at the CDC does. Maybe even a former employee of the CDC, who was recently fired because of the greedy, petulant insanity of our president and his first mate. But most of us don't remember that day. We remember the next one, though.
On March 12, my younger son's school was closed for teacher development, so he and my husband went skiing. I met with my older son's principal about PTSA stuff; we agreed to punt on a couple of items because there was a rumor school might close the following Monday. When the skiers got home, we met at our favorite outdoor Italian place (RIP Filippo's) with one of my best friends and her daughter. We joked how nice the COVID-19 break would be.
Five years later, millions of people have died of COVID-related illnesses and millions more suffer from the lasting effects of long COVID. Millions more have been infected with the Q-Anon virus or its variant. Those days were the flapping wings of the proverbial butterfly over the Pacific, except if the butterfly was an orange-haired Mothra.
So, anyway, happy anniversary to the last day of the before-times.
