Pushback 50
Happy Cory Booker Senate Floor Marathon Speech to all who celebrate. I have to admit, when I watched him passed Strom Thurmond's record, it got a little dusty in the TV room. It was not only a historic correction, since Thurmond was filibustering civil rights legislation, it was also a clarion call to other Democratic leaders to remind them leadership requires sacrifice. It was also a message to voters that there are leaders who will speak publicly and at great personal discomfort about Trump's wrongdoings and anti-democratic agenda. It was heartening.
If you watch one thing today, watch A World Without Public Employees. It's my second favorite AFSCME video and it shows how we should be talking about workers in the federal, state, and local governments.
I hope you will consider marching on Saturday, April 5, Hands Off! National Day of Action. Sign up for local actions HERE. If marching is not your thing or you can't go on Saturday, please do me a huge favor and look for news coverage of the marches where you live and email me at the email address below. I want to do another 50 states protest list and your help would be welcome!

Just Security Litigation Tracker has a lot of new updates including new lawsuits challenging Trump's election Executive Order, challenging his termination of collective bargaining agreements, and his administration's violations of FOIA. Other updates (but not all of them!):
- The Ninth Circuit has denied a request to stay the preliminary injunction preventing enforcement of transgender ban in military.
- "Overview: The National TPS Alliance (an organization representing individuals with Temporary Protected Status (TPS) in the U.S.) and individuals from Venezuela who have TPS challenged the Trump administration's decision to terminate TPS for Venezuelans in the U.S., arguing that the action was unlawful and motivated by racial bias. On Mar. 31, Judge Edward Chen granted plaintiffs motion (in a 78-page court order) to postpone the termination of temporary protected status for Venezuelan nationals."
- "On Mar. 28, Judge Amy Berman Jackson granted a preliminary injunction" preventing the administration from shutting down the CFPB.
- In the lawsuit challenging the administration's rendition process (sending people to third countries rather than deporting them, n Mar. 28, Judge Brian Murphy granted Plaintiff’s motion for a TRO, blocking Defendants from removing individuals subject to a final order of removal from the United States to a third country, unless Defendants can show that they were provided written notice and a meaningful opportunity to present a fear-based claim.
On Mar. 29, Defendants filed a Motion for partial stay of the TRO pending appeal, arguing a nationwide injunction of this kind is unlawful and improper. Judge Murphy denied this motion on the same day, citing the memorandum supporting granting of Plaintiffs’ motion for TRO.
