Before I get into today's protest recaps, I wanted to highlight a couple of stories that are worth noting. But first, tonight Trump is giving a speech in a joint session of Congress. I've been very critical of the Democratic leadership for their failure to act more strongly against Trump. A woman I met at the rally on Sunday thought I should "wait and see" how the Dems handle Trump's speech. A few Democratic leaders have stated they will not attend (here is Rep. Don Beyer) while others will be counterprogramming. Sen. Chris Murphy is hosting a live watch party and doing a pre-buttal.

I'm concerned about the rest of them, though. One news report says they will protest by wearing color coordinated outfits! Some will be bringing fired federal workers or other people hurt by DOGE cuts as guests, making these folks the real heroes. Meanwhile Serbian Opposition Throws Smoke Grenades in Parliament! I'm not saying the Congress members need to throw smoke grenades; I'm just suggesting that preserving our democracy is going to take more than matching pink outfits. I'm slightly skeptical that the guests will move the needle, but forcing mainstream news to tell those stories is a better tactic. But it's still just a tactic, not a strategy.
