Before I get into the links, I want to share a message from a friend:

Can’t we all agree that harassing a high school student-athlete, to try and score political points and to spread fear and division, is cruel and wrong?  Enough!

Please take 5 minutes today to do something about it.  Your act of kindness and community can help a CA high school student-athlete who is trans and her parents stay safe and supported this weekend as she competes in the state championship - and to paraphrase her mom, can help support all LGBTQ+ people living their lives with “courage, love, and dignity.”

You can:

  1. Donate any amount to a local group that I know is supporting the student and her family through this storm - TransFamiliesSOS.
  2. Plan a road trip to Clovis on Saturday for the state’s track & field championships and cheer loudly for all the athletes!
  3. Listen to girls in sports to learn what’s really happening.  Read this letter from a Maine student athlete.  Follow the reporting from Capitol & Main (IMO, one of the few outlets covering this firestorm of attention based on facts, not stereotypes or flat-out propaganda).
  4. Take action with Equality California,  the lead CA advocacy group (and largest state group in US) protecting the civil rights of the LGBTQ+ community and all of us through legislation, litigation, and elections.
  5. Watch women's sports all year round to see incredible competitions with fair play, inclusion, and joy!  On deck this week: USWNT (soccer) vs China on Saturday and vs Jamaica on Tuesday - the newest WNBA team the Golden State Valkryries in SF on Sunday - the College Softball World Series all week long – and so much more…

Thanks for reading, caring, and acting together – it matters.
