Hi folks. With the deployment of National Guard and Marines into Los Angeles, we've crossed an clear threshold into authoritarianism. This is a scary time and people I talk to have two distinct impulses: bury their head in the sand or start asking what kind of organization they should help start to build the resistance. Neither impulse is perfect but they each have a kernel of value. First, it's okay to turn off the news and enjoy your life and your loved ones when things become to scary and awful. Indeed, love and community are our best tools for staying safe and strong.

Second, don't start something new; join something that's already underway. That might mean getting more active in your church, synagogue, mosque, union, school, or local government. Maybe even your book club or fitness boot camp. Start where you are. There are obviously lots of organizations doing good work on organizing around immigration and protests, and I am updated the Resource Guide to collect more. Finally, if you are planning to protest this weekend (I am), remember to Protest Safely.
